Type Locality and Naming
Wang Naiwen and other Tibetan comprehensive census brigade in 1976 jointly named, Tibetan district investigation team in 1979 for the first time publicly quoted. The named section is located at the junction of Langkazi County and Lozha County (formerly known as Gapo) in Tibet, starting from Gegananan in the east of Tonga Village in Langkazi County in the north, and southward to Uyulla and Mera Pass. In 1983, Wang Naiwen et al. redefined the meaning of the Gapo Gr, which is only a dark slate system with fossil evidence from the Late Triassic that is distributed in the southern part of the Yangzhuoyongzuo, Tibet.

Lithology and Thickness
It is black slate, schist and schist interspersed with black siltstone shale, carbonaceous shale and dark gray siltstone marble. The total thickness is over 5000 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The contact relationship with the underlying strata is unknown. On the schematic stratigraphic column, the next older regional unit is the Lvcun Gr of Early and Middle Triassic.
Upper contact
The contact relationship with the overlying strata is unknown. On the schematic stratigraphic column, the next younger regional unit is the Ritang Fm of Early Jurassic.
